Payer Relations

CHA staff serve as expert resources on third party payer requirements in the areas of hospital billing, reimbursement and finance. They monitor, interpret and research current developments of third party payer rules and regulations. Staff respond to member inquiries in the areas of managed care and financial management including reimbursement, capital financing, prospective payment and capitation, hospital accounting, record retention, financial audits, job positions and placement and utilization review.

A key role of the department is to foster and maintain positive working relationships with government, payer and other organizations which affect hospital financial management. These include the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (Medicaid), Medicare fiscal intermediaries, Colorado Division of Insurance, Colorado Health Facilities Authority, Colorado Resident Discount Program (CRDP), UB92 Committee, Colorado Department of Labor and Employment - Division of Workers' Compensation, Colorado Foundation for Medical Care (CFMC), University of Colorado graduate program in Health Financial Management, Healthcare Financial Management Association, Affiliated Guild of Patient Accounting Managers (AGPAM), and major public accounting firms that have health care specialties.



Small and Rural Hospitals

Staff identify and respond to financial and other issues which affect the delivery of health care in small and rural hospitals, including the movement into the managed care environment and strengthening financial viability. We coordinate activities of the Rural Hospital Council which recommends policy to the CHA Board and assists in the development of the annual Rural Hospital Conference.



Internal Accounting and Finance Functions

Staff perform internal accounting and finance functions including membership dues determination, cash investments, budget administration, etc. and is responsible for the overall coordination, data collection and quality assurance of the Colorado Health and Hospital Association DATABANK Program.
