Discharge Data Program

The Discharge Data Program database can be used to design patient origin studies, market share analysis, charge comparisons, length of stay studies, disease-specific volume reports, patient access analysis, and crude or severity-adjusted mortality analysis. Data can be aggregated by many categories including hospital, DRG, severity level, payer type, age group, sex or zip code. The data can be used to compute variables such as average charge or median age. Fees for these reports are based on format and time required for data abstraction. Any organization has the option of purchasing ad hoc reports in hard copy, in electronic format, or on diskette. There are three components that make up the ad hoc fees: the hourly staff time, a per-record charge and the processing and handling fee. The fees for ad hoc reports are:

Any organization can purchase the entire inpatient and/or outpatient surgery database for a calendar year. The database is available on a CD ROM in a 512 character ASCII format for years 1993 forward. The number of patient records by year and the fees for the database on CD ROM are:
